If you’re someone in your 40s, 50s, or beyond that is thinking about Invisalign, but maybe on the fence a little bit, I want you to know that it’s not too late. I have treated patients in their 70s. I even had a patient in residency in her 80s, and she was super happy with her result.
Come in for a consultation, we’ll talk about it. If you need treatment, I’d be happy to treat you. There are a few cases where, if you’re an adult, there are some limitations to what we can do with Invisalign.
If you might have some gum disease, maybe moving your teeth or doing Invisalign isn’t the right option for you, and I can always refer you to a specialist or a general dentist at the office that could help treat your needs. Even if you have a lot of dental work, you still might have some crowding, your bite might still be a little bit off, so you might still be a good candidate for orthodontic treatment. A lot of Invisalign patients, especially adults, really only come in because maybe they just want straight teeth.
I always explain to them that orthodontic treatment is not just about straight teeth, it is also about function. So let’s say if you start with a lot of crowding, you’re not gonna be able to brush and floss your teeth correctly, you might have a lot of plaque buildup. We align your teeth, that’s even gonna help with your oral health in general.
So I always try to remind patients of that. It is so important to me to not only just treat someone’s smile, but treat someone’s overall oral health. It is not just about straightening your teeth, but function is a big thing too.
A lot of adults come see me for consultations and they complain about headaches, they complain their jaw is sore, and a lot of times that could be related to their bite. So with Invisalign, or even with braces, we’re able to correct your bite in a way that could minimize those headaches, that jaw pain. A lot of times it could be really beneficial, not just to straighten your teeth, but to help fix your bite, and in turn, make your headaches or your jaw pain a little bit better.
