To be blunt, I hate the dentist. Growing up in the 90s, I had some pretty rough experiences and memories. Those have carried through to adulthood for the most part. Enter North Oaks Dental in Royal Oak. This is by far, the nicest, most accommodating, and painless dentist I have experienced. I recently finished up having multiple procedures completed here, including having multiple cavities filled, cleanings and a crown after being lazy / too afraid of going to the dentist for a few years. Everyone here really go the extra mile and make sure you are comfortable. Personally, I have a fear of needles and usually feel a little weird after being numbed up. Shelby, Dr. K’s helper got me a wet wash cloth for my neck and checked on me the entire time 🥹 and talked to me to calm me down. Dr. K talked me through all the options and made sure I was completely aware of what was happening/ about to happen. Everything from the procedures performed to the scheduling and admin is top class. North Oaks has made me not dread going to the dentist, which I never thought was possible. They will be my go to Dentist from here on out!

****UPDATE**** I had a different hygienist this time who was really excellent, thoughtful, and understanding. Having the option of weekend hours is so helpful to people with daytime jobs and means I don’t have to take a vacation day to go to the dentist. I am updating this review so that others know that if they have a bad experience with one hygienist, try another before giving up. OLD REVIEW: Second worse hygienist I’ve ever had. She was rude, curt, used an ultrasonic scaler on me even though I have severe temperature sensitivity, and lectured me while I was stuck in a chair. I really don’t know why so many hygienists enjoy wielding shame and blame on people who are clearly trying to take care of their teeth. So much judgement and condescension from her. Dentist was nice enough but clearly didn’t read anything I put in my intake paperwork, not sure why I needed to fill it out if nobody was going to read it. I will update this review if the next hygienist I see is better, otherwise I will find another practice.

I LOVE North Oaks Dental! They have the best front desk employees. You never wait on hold and they're so sweet. Then, when my FSA account declined the paperwork/claim I made for reimbursement, she bended backwards AGAIN for me. The dentist are spot on and treat you like friends. Today, I received a cleaning under the gentle hands of Maha, hygienist extraordinaire! Usually, when I have gotten cleanings in the past, I have felt the need to request some numbing gel. Not today! Maha's touch was so precise and gentle that I was able to get through an entire Perio cleaning, which is more detailed than a typical cleaning, without needing any gel at all! She is like a hygienic artist with the blade. I was so happy to not be in pain as I laid back in the chair that all I could do was smile with happiness. Instead of dreading going to the dentist in the future, I will feel no worries. Plus, the entire North Oaks team are sweet and professional and flexible. This is truly the most wonderful dental office I have ever been to. From the scheduling process, to receiving my permanent crown, I was taken good care of every step of the way. I have overwhelming anxiety stemming from horrible orthodontic care in my pre-teen years, so I hadn’t been to any dentist in over 5 years. My husband finally put his foot down and insisted we find a new office so I could get the care that I desperately needed, and this was one of the the only ones he could find on google that offered sedation for a cleaning. I see dr. Israel. She is gentle, kind, compassionate, and understanding. She takes her time explaining procedures and is so, so gentle with my mouth. She never ONCE made me feel guilty for not continuing dental care for such a long time. My hygienist, the anesthesiologist, all of the desk staff, have been compassionate and understanding of my anxiety. They genuinely care about my confidence and the health of my teeth. I have been in for 3 appointments now. I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes to get back into a room. There isn’t a long wait for appointment dates.
