Sometimes teeth need to be extracted. When a cavity has gotten so large or a tooth gets severely infected to the point where we can’t save it anymore, we need to remove it. We can replace these teeth with implants in a couple of ways.
Sometimes we are able to extract the tooth and place the implant that same day, and then other times we need to remove the tooth and allow the area to heal before we can place the implant in there. Throughout this process, we are able to offer different options to keep you comfortable. One of the main options that we offer for extractions and implants is IV sedation.
Sometimes teeth that, for example, have had root canals need to be extracted. And the reason for that is root canals can get reinfected. Bacteria can find a way to get back into the tooth and cause a new infection.
And at that point, one of the only options usually is to remove it. Once it’s removed, we can then talk about replacement options such as dental implants. Dental extractions are a pretty routine part of dentistry.
There are a lot of offices out there that don’t do dental extractions. However, this is something that is a huge part of our practice here. We have a lot of options available in our toolbox as well to help keep patients comfortable throughout the process.
One of those options being IV sedation, and a lot of our patients go that route when we’re talking about extractions.
