Well, Invisalign has come a long way and the best candidate for Invisalign is somebody who recognizes the problem early because when it’s simple and small it’s easy to predict the outcome. It doesn’t mean that if it’s too crowded or too much space that you can’t fix it, it’s just we have to just spend a little bit more time to get to where we need to go. The ideal candidate is somebody anywhere from the age of 20 to 50 only because it’s more predictable to move their teeth.
Have I done Invisalign and gotten great results on somebody a lot older? Yeah, I’ve done Invisalign on people in their 70s. We just set certain expectations in terms of length of time, compliance, etc. So almost anybody’s an ideal candidate for Invisalign.
Now there are some cases where we’ll look at it and we’ll evaluate the patient and talk to them or whoever’s with them. Sometimes it’s a teenager and we’ll have to take into account compliance. Things don’t work when you don’t use them.
At that point we’ll recommend traditional braces but most people that walk into the office and if we’re going to talk about malocclusion we’ll approach Invisalign first to see if that’s a good option for them.
