With dental extractions, we only will extract a tooth if we deem it necessary, like if it’s our last resort. If a tooth is non-restorable, meaning that I cannot save it with a filling or I can’t save it with a crown and a root canal, or if I can and it’s not gonna last me a long time and I think the best outcome is to just take it out, put an implant there or something, or do something else, then I will, because then that’s time and money spent from the patient for no reason, and those are a bunch of extra steps that we can avoid, depending on the scenario, but if I think that the prognosis of the tooth is gonna be very guarded for a couple years and it’s not gonna last you longer than three to five years, then I would recommend doing the extraction and going for another option, just so you don’t have to undergo surgery two times, but dental extractions can be mentally challenging for a lot of patients, and just getting patients in the chair to do the extraction, I think, is the hardest part, because people think extraction, they associate it with a lot of pain, but if you’re numb, you shouldn’t feel anything, and that’s usually what I’ll tell my patients. If you’re numb, you should not feel a thing, and the only thing that you just feel is just a little bit of mild pressure, and that’s just pushing from the tooth, and some people can’t handle that pressure sensation, which is when they undergo a certain type of sedation, which is totally fine, that’s all up to the patient, but usually 99.9% of the time, people are fine and they are good to go.

Dental Implants Provide a Lasting Tooth Replacement
After a tooth is removed, it’s important to replace it as soon as possible to prevent shifting teeth and bite problems. Your dentist will discuss your restoration choices and help you decide the best option for your needs. One of the most effective solutions we recommend is dental implants.
Implants offer many unique benefits, including:
- The ability to replace one tooth, several teeth, or even a full arch
- Support for jawbone health and facial structure
- No need to alter neighboring teeth when used with crowns or bridges
- Improved denture stability for stronger chewing and a more natural feel without adhesives
