I became a dentist because I enjoy helping people as much as I can. I grew up in a household with dentists. My mom and dad are both dentists, so I really knew nothing else than the dental field.
I started off in undergrad. I didn’t know what to do, so I went down the biology path and I figured it out within a couple years. I went to work with my dad and I said this is something I enjoy.
I worked at a pharmacy for a little bit and just didn’t enjoy it. My uncle’s a doctor. I visited him and I rotated with him through the hospitals.
It was for me. I wanted a balance between work and still enjoying life and family and friends. Dentistry gave me that option with a nice little balance.
So after high school, I applied to Wayne State. I wanted to stay local. I wanted to be with my family.
I’m very close to my family, so I commuted to downtown Detroit. Did four years there of undergrad with a biology degree and then I applied to dental school at U of D where my mom went to school and I did four years of dental school there and started practicing. I try to focus on things that I enjoy.
So the things I enjoy are cosmetic stuff and Invisalign and crowns and just your bread and butter. The courses I’ve taken mostly have been related to Invisalign. I’ve been married for 12 years, 13 years.
I have two little boys, very little, a two-year-old and a three-year-old. So I like spending a lot of time with them as much as I can. It’s a lot, but you know, it’s fun with two little boys.
But other than that, I travel a lot with the family and my biggest passion is golf. So I try to get in as much golf as I can.

Dr. Nawar Karmo is a second-generation dentist who grew up surrounded by the dental profession. With both of his parents practicing dentistry, he developed an early appreciation for the field and the opportunity it offers to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
After graduating from high school, Dr. Karmo chose to stay close to home and attend Wayne State University, where he earned his undergraduate degree in biology. During that time, he explored several healthcare paths, including pharmacy and medicine, but ultimately found his passion while working alongside his father in dentistry. He was drawn to the ability to help patients while also maintaining a healthy balance between work, family, and life outside the office.
Dr. Karmo went on to earn his dental degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, the same dental school his mother attended. Today, he enjoys providing a wide range of dental care, with a particular interest in cosmetic dentistry, Invisalign®, crowns, and everyday restorative treatments. He has also completed continuing education focused largely on Invisalign treatment.
Outside the office, Dr. Karmo is a devoted husband and father of two young boys. He enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and getting out on the golf course whenever he can.

North Oaks Dental is definitely one stop shop for all the dental needs. Whether it’s annual dental maintenance, cleaning, extraction, or orthodontics, they got you covered. Excellent dental professionals with transparent reasonable cost with a convenient location, just could not think of a better place that has all the check marks. I had the pleasure to work with Dr Kammo and Kara for my orthodontics needs. ( then with Dr Luca) had a great time experience. With excessive crowding I had previous consults of various orthodontists. All were before even start anything they recommended to extract all for pre molars. On the other hand Dr Kammo, took the original approach. Set the braces first and monitor the movement and make the decision on what extractions to be done. This resulted in only removing two of the premolars. Not only he was extremely knowledgeable and able to correctly assess the right course of action. Kara did a fantastic job following up on the appointments and adjusting the braces and other items. And of course shout out to my hygienist and as well as the front desk admin for being extremely flexible with my schedule and last minute changes.
