What’s At Stake

Oral health can be easily maintained with proper hygiene practices at home, and regular visits to the dentist for professional teeth cleanings and oral exams.
That’s why you owe it to yourself to find a dentist you can trust, and then go see them every 3-6 months. For one thing, this will help keep your mouth free of harmful bacteria that causes disease and decay, when allowed to build up over time.

Even if cavities do sneak up on you in between visits to our office, these can be quickly and painlessly addressed with a modern tooth-colored filling. But if left alone, your tooth will continue to be under attack by decay. And you may end up needing a dental crown or even a root canal to correct the situation in your mouth.

If you don’t want to ever have to deal with additional discomfort and expense, it may be time to re-think whatever it is that has been making you avoid the dentist’s chair. But in reality, whatever the root cause of your anxiety may be, we’re confident that sedation can help you get past it. Let’s discuss some of the options you’ll have available here at North Oaks Dental.

Inhaled Sedation

Laughing gas comes first among our dental sedation levels. This mild sedative can relieve your nerves when you get here but still wear off in time for you to drive yourself home from our office. Here’s the deal: Our team fits a nosepiece on you so you can begin to breathe in the gas mixture. Right away, you’ll begin to feel completely at ease about being here with us.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is the next level of dental sedation and therefore takes it a little deeper. Because of this, oral sedation is perfect for any longer treatments or for our patients who have higher levels of anxiety and require more help relaxing.

You’ll be prescribed a sedative in pill form to take before your appointment. Then you just sit back and relax while we get to work. Oral sedation is stronger than inhaled sedation, so you may not remember much about your dental treatment. However, oral sedation lasts longer, so you’ll definitely need to find a ride home.

IV Sedation

Not every dentist’s office is qualified to offer IV sedation, which is the strongest form of dental sedation available. But our team has been through the special trainings and certification process so that we can provide it here. With IV sedation, we can accomplish far more dental work in a shorter period of time. And because it is the strongest option, you are not likely to remember any of it. There’s no chance of driving afterwards, either.
